First Week of Development



Weekly Devlog #1

This week I started the development for Gun & Stack and to be honest, I don't really have any idea on what this project will gonna be and what are the main mechanics of the game. Throughout the process of building up the core of the game I am slowly constructing some idea on what the game will be and now here is Gun & Stack and currently working on it for 8-10 hours a day which is pretty long because of the Corona Virus Epidemic.

Here are the mechanics of the game and how I came up with them!

The Shooting Mechanic
My first approach on the game is to be a top down shooter game where you kill zombies and gain points to buy more cool guns the I started on some environment sprites first of I made this 3 stones then I experimented a little bit and I found out that it will be more cool if you can destroy stones and it will drop something. There it started to go far away from the original plan which is to have a top down zombie shooter game.

The Stacking Mechanic
After experimenting I came up with an idea that I think is pretty good. I added a something like Town Hall at the middle of the scene and I decided that the player will push the dropped resources to it but I find it difficult to push the same resource one by one so I decided to add a stacking mechanic that took me a while to figure out on how to code it and after about 2 hours I finally implemented it


The Merging Mechanic
I really want to add more items in the game but I also want to challenge the player on obtaining it so I implemented this mechanic where you will push 2 different resources to form another resource which took me like an hour to implement but it turned out pretty well now my problem is to add many more resources


Enemies
The game is pretty boring as I'm working on it that's why I added some enemies to challenge the player and it drops a pretty amount of loots that can help the player to move forward


NPC Quest Master! In Demo
The game has currently have no goal yet and there's not enough that challenge the player that is why I added this NPC that gives the player a certain quest.


Different Types of Guns In Demo
I added some different types of guns to give the game more variation throughout the game ranging from slow attack speed to fastest attack speed with different damage deals


Lastly, I partnered up with the cool developer CubeMakesGames in developing the Gun & Stack and I'm really excited on what will the game be!
